James Yale was a good, hard-working employee at Fort Langley. As the clerk, James Yale had to find ways to make sure business at the fort was profitable. Also, he had to make records of all the business and of food grown on the farm.
As Officer-In-Charge, he had to build the new fort in the correct location. He also started the fish packing business.
Last, but definately not least, as Chief Trader, he was such a good man, he received a share of the company's profits.
